Encounters With The Obscure invites you to its next screening on Thursday 18th July, 8:30pm at the Lumiere on Chatsworth Road.

This week we will be showing Australian director Don Levy's 'Herostratus' (1967). The title comes from the name of the Ancient Greek man Herostratus who sought to immortalise his name by setting fire  to the temple of Artemis in Ephesus.
In the film a young poet called Max hires a marketing company to turn his suicide into a media spectacle. He finds that his subversive gesture and his motivations are revealed as a desperate attempt to seek attention through celebrity.

We look forward to seeing you...
