Encounters With The Obscure is continuing its journey through Eastern Europe on Thursday, 8th November at 8pm

This week's focal point will be Hungary and we are delighted to show Zoltan Huszarik's film 'Szinbad' from the year 1971.

The film is based around the short stories of Hungarian symbolist writer Gyula Krudy. It opens with a sequence of fleeting images - the stamens of a flower, drops of oil on water, a spider's web etc. each of which will subsequently be linked to one of Szinbad's memories of his love affairs.

Encounters With The Obscure is looking forward to seeing you. Free admission and popcorn as always.

Lumiere Halloween Double-Bill

This Sunday, 28th October, we will have a special Halloween double-bill starting at 7pm

The first film will be David Cronenberg's 1979 film 'The Brood'. The science-fiction horror film evolves around the psychosomatic humanoid offspring of a woman, who is undergoing treatment at a controversial psychiatry. 'The Brood' is one of David Cronenberg's earlier films and one of his best and most personal works.

Secondly, will be Michael Haneke's disturbing psychological thriller 'Funny Games' from the year 1997 (the original version), about two young men who take a family hostage and demand them to play sadistic games with one another.

Free admission as always and a special Halloween treat.

After our little incident last Sunday, Encounters With The Obscure is back this Thursday the 18th October, at 9pm

The next two weeks will be focusing on Romanian filmmakers, starting with Corneliu Porumboiu's film 'A fost sau n-a fost?' or better known as '12:08 East of Bucharest', released in 2006.

The feature film is a humorous approach on the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which culminated with the end of the communist regime. The English title of the film refers to the exact time (12:08 pm on 22nd December 1989) when Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu fled Bucharest following the colapse of the government.

Join us for a relaxed Thursday film night. It's all free, including the popcorn.

After last Sunday's cine treat Encounters With The Obscure wants to see more of Nuri Bilge Ceylan's talent on screen, which is why we decided to show 'Iklimler' (Climates) a film from the year 2006.

The story evolves around a couple's break-up and features Ebru Ceylan (the director's wife) as the main actress and the filmmaker himself as her on-screen husband.
Nuri Bilge Ceylan is famous for creating low-budget movies and using family and friends for his cast.

Free admission and popcorn for the sheer love of cinema. The screening will be starting a little earlier this week, at 2pm on Sunday 7th October. Come and join us for a relaxed Sunday afternoon.
